À la mémoire de

Scott Mackay

1979 - 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Scott (Scotty) Philip MacKay on May 10, 2026.

Scotty was born to Wallace and Donna MacKay on April 24, 1979, in Bowmanville, Ontario, becoming a little brother to Greg MacKay, and grandson to Lloyd and Betty Barnes of Hampton, Ontario, and John and Eldred MacKay of Dorset, Ontario.

Scotty spent his school years between Bowmanville and nearby Orono, playing hockey and baseball for these town teams throughout the years. During this time, Scotty made many wonderful, lifelong friends that he regularly connected with.

After spending a couple of seasons in Dawson City, Yukon, in the early 2000s working as a forest firefighter, Scotty eventually found his way to Wakefield, Quebec, where he rooted down and happily lived out the rest of his life working as a carpenter. As always, Scotty made many wonderful, close friends in the Wakefield community, which became a second family to him.

Scotty loved hockey and played throughout his life. He was almost always seen sporting a Toronto Maple Leafs hat or sweater, unapologetically cheering for his team year-round with unwavering enthusiasm, regardless of their performance.

As often as possible, Scotty would travel to Dorset, Ontario, to the family property where his parents now reside. For many years, it was here that family weekend gatherings and reunions were held. Scotty loved visiting with his many cousins, aunts, and uncles, and especially with his niece, Allie. Uncle Scotty was always joking with and lovingly teasing our little Allie. Since Allie’s birth, the two shared a special bond.

Scotty is survived by his mother (Donna), father (Wallace), brother (Greg), his sister-in-law (Heather) and niece (Allie). His final resting place will be the Paint Lake Cemetery in Dorset.

To honour Scotty, a celebration of life will be held at Centre Vorlage in Wakefield on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

I only recently met Scott as he worked on a project at my home. He was hard working and genuinely cared about his work and keeping his clients happy. His attention to detail and thoughtfulness is echoed in the work he did and he will forever be a part of our home. May he rest in peace.

Wallace, Donna and Greg: It’s hard to express in a few words how greatly missed and loved Scotty was by all. As his uncle, I recall him being relentlessly teased by the adults and many cousins, which always produced a big grin! Later, he could give it back in return. His kind heart, his love of dogs and summers at Dorset were among his many personality traits. Rest in peace my friend. Uncle Gordon and Aunt Linda MacKay

Scotty was a friend. Played hockey with him for the first time at 8 yrs old and knew even then he was someone you wanted to spend time with. Through high school and other teams Scott was always a leader, always fun keeping it light and loose, and always accountable. You will be missed buddy.

I worked with Scotty at the rink back in Bowmanville during the 90s and he was always the happiest, sunniest kid; a hard worker and a joy to be around. What a sad shock, this news is. All the best to his family and my most sincere condolences.
