It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of John Rocha, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 4th, 2026, at the age of 60.
John is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Amanda (Wyatt), Marissa, and Erika (Richard), who were his pride and joy. He is survived by his devoted mother, Helena Rocha; and by his siblings, Luis (Karla) and Sandra (Greg); as well his friend and the mother of his daughters, Christine.
He was predeceased by his father, Antonio Rocha, who he missed every day.
His absence will be deeply felt by those who were lucky enough to know him. His love for his family - for his nieces Gabriella and Anna, his nephews Hayden and Evan, and his many cousins both in Canada and Portugal - was boundless. He will also be missed by the countless friends whose lives have been touched by his contagious humour, willingness to offer a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on, and his deep sense of loyalty.
The family will be hosting a funeral service in John’s memory on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Notre-Dame-de-Fatima Portuguese Church (Igreja Católica Portuguesa Nossa Senhora de Fátima), located at 42 Hanson Street in Gatineau, a place of deep family significance. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church from 10 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m.
The family warmly welcomes stories, memories, photographs, and reflections in honor of John’s life. These can be emailed to [email protected], and are deeply appreciated.
Donations may be made to the Outaouais Health Foundation in John’s memory.

I went to high school with John and was privileged to know and call him a friend beyond those years. He brought light, laughter, and his own brand of love to wherever he was. A very special memory I have of him is when my brother (Guy) was gravely ill (septic and in an induced coma). I travelled to Ottawa from Alberta in a flight that got at around 1:30 in the morning. I will NEVER forget the sight of Louise Richard, Shawn Grisim, and John Rocha (in a wheelchair - goofing off as usual) as I was coming down the escalator at the airport. He insisted on being part of the team that made that journey bearable. Though I was raw and exhausted, their faces at the bottom of those stairs is something that made my heart skip a beat (then and now). Like many, I have so many good memories of John (shared escapades that were pulled off as only John COULD pull them off). I am so saddened for all those who loved him as fiercely as he loved them. You and him are in my prayers. God's loving embrace to you all as you grieve and adjust. He was very special. Don't let his light go out in you.

John was my site supervisor for a large project we were working on prior to his health decline. I'll always remember the time I took him out for a one-on-one dinner to get a sense of his passions and what drives him. Needless to say I learned quite a bit over the course of a few beers and some wings. I'm really grateful for the stories he shared with me, and for the metaphorical reminder that good books don't need the fanciest of covers.
Word of his passing has been shared with the team, and he will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Condolences to everyone in John's world. I went to high school with John and although I was not close to John, we had many friends in commun. You can judge a person by the amount of lifelong friends they have decades beyond high school and John had many. RIP.
