I went to high school with John and was privileged to know and call him a friend beyond those years. He brought light, laughter, and his own brand of love to wherever he was. A very special memory I have of him is when my brother (Guy) was gravely ill (septic and in an induced coma). I travelled to Ottawa from Alberta in a flight that got at around 1:30 in the morning. I will NEVER forget the sight of Louise Richard, Shawn Grisim, and John Rocha (in a wheelchair - goofing off as usual) as I was coming down the escalator at the airport. He insisted on being part of the team that made that journey bearable. Though I was raw and exhausted, their faces at the bottom of those stairs is something that made my heart skip a beat (then and now). Like many, I have so many good memories of John (shared escapades that were pulled off as only John COULD pull them off). I am so saddened for all those who loved him as fiercely as he loved them. You and him are in my prayers. God's loving embrace to you all as you grieve and adjust. He was very special. Don't let his light go out in you. Julie (Huot) Baker

John was my site supervisor for a large project we were working on prior to his health decline. I'll always remember the time I took him out for a one-on-one dinner to get a sense of his passions and what drives him. Needless to say I learned quite a bit over the course of a few beers and some wings. I'm really grateful for the stories he shared with me, and for the metaphorical reminder that good books don't need the fanciest of covers. Word of his passing has been shared with the team, and he will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Dan

Condolences to everyone in John's world. I went to high school with John and although I was not close to John, we had many friends in commun. You can judge a person by the amount of lifelong friends they have decades beyond high school and John had many. RIP. Marc

Dear Tia Lena, Luis and Sandra, It is with a broken heart and immense sadness that we ( Rob and I ) say good-bye to a dear and loving cousin. Even though distance kept us apart, I am so grateful to have had a chance to spend time with Johnny at our last family event, talking and laughing. I will miss him dearly. xo Diane and Rob

John, he was everyone’s friend, loyal, determined & one of the most positive, funny, optimistic, wonderful & kind human I’ve ever known. His passing just breaks my heart 🥲. When laughter was heard, there he was, front & centre most of the time, not loud, but quick with his witt & humour, embraced with his warmth & genuine self. In Loving Memory of a Dear Friend It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to a dear friend who has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. We were raised together, our lives intertwined through friendship, laughter, and countless shared moments. There are so many stories, but one of my favorites will always make me smile — the night I snuck out to go to Disco Viva and you came to pick me up in your dad's station wagon and had accident and you somehow managed to break the windshield with your forehead. It was such a you moment — fearless, loyal, and unforgettable. You were charismatic and effortlessly drew people to you. You were a genuinely good friend, surrounded by many who cared deeply for you. Your sarcastic humor was one of your trademarks, and it never failed to bring laughter. You leave behind a space that cannot be filled, but your spirit lives on in the stories we tell and the memories we hold close. Thank you for the friendship, the laughs, and the loyalty. You will always be remembered and deeply missed.

My deepest condolences to all of John's family and friends. I met John in high school and we reconnected through Facebook in recent years. I will remember John for his kindness. May God receive him into Heaven and may He bring comfort during this sorrowful time.

I went to D'Arcy and John was in a few of my classes. I remember him being in typing and steno class. I remember the school trip to old Montreal. He was very funny on the ride to and from the trip. He made the time pass so much better. While a lot of people were always picking on me, he never did that. He treated me like a person. He had a beautiful heart. He's now in heaven. My deepest sympathies to the Rocha family, and friends, I remember john back in the high school days, at D'arcy McGee High, Back In the late 70s to 1982, he was indeed, very funny.

My deepest condolences to his daughters, his mother, his family, and his friends. My late husband, Peter Thomas (Pedro Tomas), was a longtime friend of Johnny’s, and I was privileged to call him a friend as well. He was a true and loyal friend who cared deeply for Peter and often came by during his cancer treatments to lift his spirits and make his days a little brighter. God bless you, Johnny. I know Peter will be there to greet you at the gate.

Rest in peace my friend 🙏 John, upon my arrival to Hull was my very first friend, right from PIUS XII to D'Arcy McGee High school being always present in numerous occasions. Including my wedding wich was held in Portugal... he did not hesitate a moment to be there right by my side. A true friend ❤️that will always stay with in me .
