C’est avec tristesse que nous vous faisons part du décès de monsieur Daniel Clapin survenu le 25 février 2026, à l’âge de 69 ans. Il était l’époux de madame Réjeanne Viel et le fils de feu David Clapin et de feu Eileen Harrington.
Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil ses fils François-Gabriel Clapin (Maude Brunet) et Olivier Clapin (Hanna Zheng). Il laisse également dans le deuil son frère John Clapin, sa soeur Kathryn Clapin ainsi que ses belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et ami(e)s. Il fut prédécédé par ses frères David Clapin et Peter Clapin.
Une cérémonie de vie aura lieu dans l'intimité de la famille et amis proches le dimanche 22 mars à 10 h au pavillon du Lac des fées, situé au 95 boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes, secteur Hull de Gatineau. Une rencontre en hommage à Daniel Clapin sera organisée par la famille plus tard au printemps 2026.

It is with sadness that we inform you of the death of Mr. Daniel Clapin on February 25, 2026, at the age of 69. He was the husband of Mrs. Réjeanne Viel and the son of the late David Clapin and the late Eileen Harrington.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons François-Gabriel Clapin (Maude Brunet) and Olivier Clapin (Hanna Zheng). He is also survived by his brother John Clapin, his sister Kathryn Clapin as well as his sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers David Clapin and Peter Clapin.
A life ceremony will take place in the privacy of family and close friends on Sunday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lac des fées pavillion located at 95 de la Cité-des-Jeunes Boulevard, Hull sector of Gatineau. A special gathering dedicated to Daniel Clapin will be organised by the family later in the spring of 2026.

Nous avons accueilli cette nouvelle avec tristesse. J’ai connu Daniel via mon travail à titre de Directeur des Dons Planifiés à CHEO. J’ai appris de son décès par une collègue qui a repris mon poste à CHEO. Ici, j’emprunte les mots de ma remplaçante qui décrivent très bien Daniel: «He was a consummate professional and lovely human. »

I am so sad and sorry to hear that Dan had passed away. He was a friend and colleague of mine from the Ottawa fundraising community. I will always remember him as a very kind person who was so generous with his time and consult. He cared deeply about his profession and was an unselfish mentor to many of his colleagues. I only learned of Dan's death today, through the newsletter of the Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, of which he was an active member for many years. Dan was a great mentor for me when I was trying to get into fundraising as a second career in 2006. He was very precise, and correct, in telling me what I needed to do. He will be greatly missed by the Ottawa-Gatineau fundraising community.
