Sustainable development policy
Pioneers in sustainable development
By their very nature and core values, funeral cooperatives are already aligned with the principles of sustainable development. Collectively, they have chosen to integrate an environmental dimension into their range of products and services.
In 2008, the network of Quebec funeral cooperatives initiated a process to establish a formal Sustainable Development Policy.
The sustainable development policy
The values shared across the Quebec funeral cooperative network naturally inspire us to take part in the broader movement that links economic progress with long-term concern for the planet’s survival and the well-being of its people: sustainable development.
In this spirit, we have adopted a Sustainable Development Policy to guide our long-term evolution. Through this policy, we aim to position ourselves as a leader in sustainable development within Quebec’s funeral industry. Beyond applying sustainable principles to all management practices and operational processes, this policy encourages and supports the adoption of tailored sustainability policies in each individual cooperative.
Our vision
Our vision of sustainable development is structured around six key pillars:
- Supporting members and preserving traditions
- Offering innovative services using new technologies, including virtual funerals and cemeteries
- Environmentally responsible management and operations, eliminating chemical products, promoting alternative energy, and reducing emissions
- Employee well-being and loyalty, through training and balanced working conditions
- Becoming a sustainability leader within Canada’s funeral industry
- Strengthening the cooperative network, promoting our values and collective impact
Our commitments
- Responsible management: Consider environmental, economic, and social factors, and publish performance indicators.
- Positive contribution: Innovate to provide competitive services while raising awareness about sustainable development.
- Responsible communication: Engage in long-term dialogue with stakeholders (members, clients, suppliers, communities, employees).
- Fulfilling workplace: Ensure a safe, healthy, and empowering environment for all employees.
- Reducing environmental impact: Optimize resource use, consume responsibly, and innovate to minimize pollution.
- Leading by example: Take part in sectoral, local, and international initiatives promoting sustainable development principles.
The Heritage Program is the cornerstone of our Sustainable Development Policy. Through this initiative, we aim to leave behind a healthier environment by planting trees and offsetting the ecological impact of our activities.
