Caskets and burials
A final resting place rooted in respect and tradition
Burial remains a meaningful choice for many families. It provides a permanent resting place for the body or urn, often accompanied by a symbolic and unifying ritual.
At the Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais, we offer personalized guidance to help you choose a casket or urn that reflects your wishes, values, and budget.
Our casket options
Choosing a casket is a personal decision, often influenced by the deceased’s preferences for material and style. We offer a wide selection of models in wood, metal (bronze, copper, stainless steel, steel), as well as fully ecological options. Price differences are generally due to the materials used, the quality of the interior finish, and the type of fabric selected
Bronze and copper
Bronze and copper are semi-precious metals that offer superior strength and durability compared to other materials. They are also highly resistant to rust.
Steel
Steel caskets are available in different grades depending on thickness: 16-gauge is the thickest, 18-gauge is medium, and 20-gauge is the standard option commonly used in the automotive industry.
Wood
Common types of wood used for casket construction include oak, ash, mahogany, cherry, cedar, pine, poplar, and plywood.
Vault or burial liner
A vault or burial liner is a rigid, sealed, and airtight container designed to hold the casket or urn. It helps prevent soil collapse and the shifting of headstones caused by the natural deterioration of the casket or urn. Vaults are available in steel, plastic, or concrete.
Burial involves placing the body in the ground within a cemetery.
Cremation, on the other hand, involves placing the body in a casket or cremation box, which is then placed in a cremation chamber. Under intense heat (1,000 to 1,200°C), the remains are reduced to bone fragments and ashes, which are then carefully placed in a labeled urn.
According to the wishes of the deceased, the ashes may be buried, scattered, kept at home, or placed in a columbarium. Some insurance companies may require an official certificate specifying the location of the ashes.
It is advisable to discuss your wishes with your loved ones so that they are aware of them and can respect them. Our advisors are here to help you make these end-of-life choices.
