Malcolm Scully

Died, after a 6 year struggle with bone cancer, in the Maison Mathieu Froment Savoie in Gatineau QC where he received superb care in his final days. Son of the late Angus and Rae Scully of Toronto and Scarborough. Remembered by the love of his life Lucie LaFrance (Gatineau), brother Angus (Jill) in Nanaimo, niece Kimberley in Australia, nephew Jeffrey (Lisa) in Vancouver, cousin Ellen in Minneapolis, and his devoted and selfless friend Martin Aube in Gatineau.
Raised in Scarborough, Malcolm graduated from Thomson CI and York University, working his way through school as an orderly at Scarborough General Hospital. He became a journalist, working for newspapers in Alliston, Orangeville, and Belleville before joining CKO Radio News and covering Parliament as a member of the Press Gallery. He twice covered federal election campaigns crossing Canada in the Leaders planes, even being nominated as a Rhino Party candidate in the process. Malcolm then worked for the Liberal Caucus as a media advisor, before returning to journalism with the Sudbury Star. He later left journalism for medical reasons. He was a voracious reader with a prodigious memory, following and analyzing politics and Ottawa sports teams, right to the end.
