It is with resounding sadness that we announce the passing of Bernadette Meiling Ling on February 13, 2023. Bernadette courageously fought a long and arduous battle with breast cancer. She was 58 years old.
Bernadette is survived by her mother, Claire Cupen, her father, Dr. Edmund Ling and siblings Caroline McGloin, James Ling, Rachael Ling, Dexter Assoon and Eddy Ling, as well as by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her brother Nicholas Assoon.
Bernadette graduated from York University with a Masters in Environmental Studies. She held a number of positions with the Government of Canada, the most recent of which was Social Policy Researcher - Indigenous Services.
Bernadette travelled extensively for business and pleasure. Her passions included: natural skin care and perfumery, homeopathy, outdoor activities – especially near the water, cooking and dancing.
Bernadette was vibrant, sociable and charismatic. As an eloquent conversationalist, she thrived in social situations, and was often referred to as a someone who held a captive audience wherever she went. Bernadette was loving and kind to her family and friends, and nurtured lifelong friendships with many who knew her.
Bernadette was determined to overcome any obstacle or challenge. She met her challenges with fierce determination, and always maintained a positive outlook on life. Bernadette lived life on her own terms, blazing an unforgettable trail to her last sunset.
Bernadette’s passing is a tremendous loss to her family, devoted loyal friends, and many who knew her. She has impacted the lives of many, and her legacy of light, love, and laughter will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of Bernadette’s life will take place on Sunday March 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. at La Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais. 95 de la Cité des Jeunes Boulevard in Gatineau (Hull) Québec. Bernadette was more than a friend, she was a soul sister to me. I am thankful for her love, friendship and dedication, and for the many happy moments and laughs we shared over the many years we have known each other.
She will remain forever in my heart.

I am so very sorry and sad for your loss! I so wish she could have danced a little longer on earth. I went to high school with Bernadette and was friends with her before she went out east to pursue her advanced degree. She will always hold a very special place in my heart and memory. We loved to go out dancing and I’ll cherish her image of her dancing wearing her favourite Fuchsia heels. Dancing with her arms in the air without a care. Rest In Peace dear one
