1938 - 2024

John Smiley, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2024, at the age of 86. John was predeceased by his son William (Bill) and his brother Peter. 

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Smiley (Grant), his daughter Lynn (Darin McRae), daughter-in-law Suzanne Smiley and by his grandchildren Tyler, Connor, Autumn, Finola and Abigail. 

John was born in Shawville, Quebec to Kyle and Pearl Smiley (Jackson). He was passionate about British cars, especially MGs and Jaguars. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, spending winters in Arizona and summers at the cottage. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.

The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of the Hull Hospital’s dialysis unit for the compassionate care they provided to John.

A private family service will be held in the spring.

Hello,
I am Len Fortin. I am a member of the Ottawa MG Club, and knew John from several club meetings where we would share conversation - especially about MGs. I was unaware of his passing last year. I do hope the healing process of your loss can bring you some comfort. The Ottawa MG Club has a tradition of making a donation to a local charity when a club member passes away. Could you tell me if there is a favourite charity that you would recommend, so the club can make a charitable donation in memory of John? Thank you.
