Timothy Phillip Naumetz

May 24, 1949 - May 3, 2025.

Tim died peacefully in his sleep after suffering a fall in Gatineau, Quebec.

He is survived by his beloved son Edan Joseph Naumetz, his sister Holly Naumetz, brother John Naumetz, sister-in-law Marleen, nephews Jason and Chad, by Edan's mother Janet, a large extended family and many friends.

He was predeceased by his father Percy, his mother Lynette Hartley, and his brother, George.

Tim was born in Melville, Saskatchewan, grew up in the beautiful Qu'Appelle Valley, was immensely proud of his Saskatchewan roots and returned home often.

He was an alumnus of the University of Regina and Carleton University and had a long and distinguished career as a reporter.

He was a Life member of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery, he covered federal politics from Pierre Trudeau to Justin Trudeau. His work was published in the Carillon (University of Regina), the Regina Leader Post, the Canadian Press, the Toronto Sun, Canwest, Ottawa City magazine, the Hill Times, iPolitics, Ottawa.

He loved his work, treated readers to lots of scoops, travelled the globe and reported from various conflict zones, including the 1991 Gulf War, during which he travelled with a forward-operating American unit among the first to enter Kuwait. He also covered conflicts in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prior to retirement, his work focused on federal politics, federal courts and gun control.

Away from his Parliament Hill beat, he lived in a beautiful house he built at Lac Rheaume, Quebec. He loved hosting summer barbecues and lakeside bonfires. He was an avid outdoorsman, sailor, hiker, snowshoer, fisherman, golfer and a very proud, loving father.

A private family funeral will be held.

Many memories

Learned a lot from Tim. An old school reporter with a keen eye and an exact pen. Will always remember smokes outside Centre Block and buying hot dogs with melted cheese from the “Polish lady.” Keep’em accountable up there, Tim. You’re missed down here.

Tim interviewed me for several stories over the years and we usually had time to swap memories about our Saskatchewan heritage. He always had direct questions, no b.s. or bias, and wasn't shy of pointing out contradictions. It will be said many times, but he was the best kind of old school reporter, keeping Canadians informed.

Tim’s friends and family

I worked alongside Tim in the Hotroom for many years. It always amazed me how he could start from a blank slate and always have a good story to file by the end of the day. I’m still proud of the work we did together on the in-and-out election fraud story. He will be missed.
