It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Bélanger on October 16th, 2021, at the age of 67.
He leaves his brothers : Nick (Carol Martin) and Marc Bélanger and many friends.
The family wishes to invite former collegues and friends to attend for the burial of his ashes at the St-François de Sales cemetery in Gatineau located at 35 Fortin St on November 11, 2021 at 2 p.m.
For those who wish to do so, donations to The Ottawa Civic Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the Ottawa Civic Hospital staff for their support and good care. Special thanks to his good friend Emma.

I was surprised and saddened to learn of Patrick's passing, he was definitely a dear DFAIT colleague and will be missed by many. We had planned to have lunch with Janet and Greg at "the Earl" during the past year but unfortunately were prevented from doing so.
My thoughts are with Pat's family and friends at this sad time.

Patrick was the "face" of the Jules Leger Library for so many years, always dependable, so knowledgeable. So saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to the Belanger family.
I too am saddened by the news of Pat's passing - too soon, too sudden. He leaves a big hole only partly filled by many good memories. Rest in peace, old friend.

It was with tremendous sadness that I learned of Pat's passing. I will miss our coffee get-togethers, our long phone chats, comparing our TV/cable/internet/streaming deals, discussions on which Stephen King book was the scariest, Pat's self-deprecating humour and, most of all, his friendship. RIP, my dear friend.

My deepest sympathies to Patrick’s family. I was extremely shocked to hear of his passing as I was really hoping to spend more time with him. He was a dear colleague and friend at the DFAIT/GAC library. The man knew his stuff! Rest well my friend!

I did not know Patrick. However I was a frequent visitor to the library and have benefitted from his dedication, knowledge, and service.

I am quite sadden to hear of the news of Patrick's passing. He was such a nice person to work with, always helpful, patient and so knowledgeable.
Always happy to help, always ready to assist with the best way that he'd dig up and go beyond the ordinary.
I will remember him fondly, as he was a great part of the experience of working at 125 and going to the library and taking to him.

Patrick's ability to remember a name was incredible. He must have had millions of requests from thousands of people over the years, but never left you feeling like a number. I'll miss bumping into him at Fort Pearson.
I remember seeing Patrick's warm and helpful face every time I needed some assistance. He was always ready to help and always thoughtful.

Saw this terrible news in the broadcast message this morning. I talked to him often, our audio visual office was connected to the library and my wife Shana Glastonbury worked at the Resource Centre located in the library. We both send our condolences to the Belanger family.
Patrick was always helpful and knowledgeable but most of all, always so pleasant to deal with. His longevity made me think he would go on forever and ever being the face of the Library. I was surprised and saddened at the news. To all his family and friends, I offer my deepest condolences.
C`était avec tristesse que j avais entendu que Patrick n était encore avec nous. Je travaillais comme avocat pour la direction juridique du Ministre des affaires étrangères pour quelques années et par conséquence je fréquentais la bibliothèque du ministre régulièrement. Patrick était toujours là, toujours positif avec un bon sens d`humeur. Patrick a clairement été fier comme bibliothécaire.

I’m so sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. I worked with him at the DFAIT library at the very beginning of my career. I learned a lot from him and always enjoyed his good sense of humor. My sympathies during this difficult time.
I was very sad to hear this news. Patrick was one of the first people I met in the Department more than 25 years ago, when I was a new foreign service officer. He was always kind, thoughtful and helpful, and ready to roll up his sleeves to find the best answer to whatever request came to the library, sometimes on very short notice. Condolences to family and friends.
