It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Da Silva Martins, who died peacefully on Thursday, 18 April, 2013 at the age of 64 after courageously battling Gastro Intestinal Stromar Tumor cancer for two and a half years. Maria is the cherished wife of Isac Martins; loving Mother to Dean (Elisa) and Steve (Jennifer) Martins; and dear grandmother to Isac and Isabelle Martins. Maria is survived by her mother Maria Da Silva, brothers Aldevino (Guadalupe) and Franklin (Elizabeth) and sisters Deolinda Avila and Gabriela (Aguinaldo) Cardosa. She also leaves behind sister-in-law Ruth (Januario) Remigio and brother-in-law Virgilio (Helen) Martins and many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal Maria emigrated to Canada 1962 with her parents when she was 14, yearning to make the most of her opportunity for a better life. In addition to being a devoted wife and caring mother, Maria worked for over 17 years in jewelry sales; the hallmark of her career was with Peoples Jewelers, where she distinguished herself as one of the company's top salespeople. In addition to taking great pride on how she looked and dressed, she had great people skills, and her empathy and compassion endeared her to all who came to know her. A trendy and popular aunt, she also cherished the close friendships that she had with her many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
VISITATION: Friday, 26th April, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
at Coopérative Funéraire De L'Outaouais. 95 Boulevard de la Cité- des-Jeunes, Gatineau.
FUNERAL SERVICE: will be held on Saturday, 27th April at 11a.m. at Église Portugaise Notre-Dame-De-Fatima, 42 rue Hanson, Gatineau.
