HURDON, David Henry

1948 - 2022

Our beloved David Hurdon passed away on April 22 2022 at the age of 72 after a short illness. He faced his illness bravely with strong support from family and friends.

David was born in Fort William Ontario and moved to Toronto to pursue a career in retail where he held a number of executive positions in companies predominantly in the wine industry. He also had a creative side that expressed itself in video production and in music where he was a talented singer and guitar player recording and performing alongside his friends including Paul Schaffer,Rick Lazar and David Smythe.

David lived life to the fullest and had many friends who knew they could count on him. One of his favourite things was to join family gatherings where he caught up on the lives of those that he loved and who loved him.

David was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Edna Hurdon and is survived by his son Robert Hurdon, Robert’s mother Susan Cumming and his brothers Jonathan( Sylvie Daigle) and Charles (Marie-Claude Turgeon). He is also survived by his nieces Katie, Lauren ( Christopher Yule) and Alexandra Hurdon and his nephews Gauthier Daigle and Simon Hurdon( Can Akcevin).

The family will hold a private celebration of his life later this summer.

I offer my sincere condolences to David’s family. David was a dear friend and although we did not have the opportunity to see each other in person over the past forty years, we did communicate over social media and kept each other up-to-date on our various activities. The years we spent playing music together in our high school days created a bond of camaraderie and respect stronger than most people can imagine. He was naturally curious, intelligent, sensitive and exceptionally talented and I was privileged to call him my friend.

Deepest sympathy to all members of the Hurdon family. I know David will be sorely missed. He was a big guy with a big heart. Lots of talent but gracious and humble. I will always treasure my memories of David.

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of David. The last contact we had with David was before he moved to Toronto; however, we did recently connect through Facebook. He was a gentle soul, and had a most colourful and intelligent way of expressing himself. The last we heard some months ago was that he was moving to Ottawa to be close to family. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time.
