The Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais sets up a new home in Thurso

On Thursday, November 30, 2017, the Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais (CFO) officially inaugurated its new funeral home at 336 Victoria Street in Thurso.

The CFO, which has been present in Thurso since it acquired the funeral home of J. Hubert Villeneuve, at 134 Alexandre Street in 1999, is proud to establish a place for thoughtful celebration that is perfectly adapted to the needs of the community and its surrounding areas.

Chairman of the board Dan Gay, said: “We have picked a beautiful structure built by BBL Construction and owned by Magco Registered Properties with whom we have signed a long-term lease.”

The CFO has also invested nearly $200,000 for furniture, interior decoration and special features of this funeral home. “We take pride in our accomplishments since our arrival in Thurso especially since people have come to see that trusting a cooperative is a guarantee of satisfaction,” Mr. Gay added.

The CFO Board Chair took the opportunity to thank Thurso Mayor Benoit Lauzon for “being so welcoming and responsive to our needs when we met with him to discuss our intentions to move to new facilities.”

The Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais was founded in 1979 by a group of local citizens who wanted to receive funeral services at an affordable cost.

It thus met a market demand for an alternative to the traditional funeral home and closely aligned with the needs of its members, who now number more than 500 in Thurso.

Managed by local people for local people, the CFO uses a convivial approach to offer a complete range of high-quality, contemporary funeral services at competitive prices.

CFO General Manager Guylaine Beaulieu says that “a key aspect for us is to maintain an environment where people feel that they are esteemed family members whose needs are understood and supported. When we say: ‘let our family take care of yours,’ it’s more than a slogan; we mean it.”

“The attentive service, the compassion, the professionalism and the attention to detail are all hallmarks of our cooperative that alleviate part of the pain and make a difference in the tragic moments of grief.”

The Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais is a non-profit organization now owned by some 22,000 members.

It serves the biggest share of the market in the Outaouais and ranks among the top 10 funeral companies in Quebec.

The CFO is part of the largest Quebec funeral network comprising 19 cooperatives with 100 locations in 70 communities and 200,000 members.
