Bélanger Varney, Muriel

1938 - 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of

Muriel Varney, née Bélanger

She passed on May 2nd, 2017 at home, at the age of 78.

Beloved wife and best friend of Terry Varney, retired veterinarian, for more than 56 wonderful years. Daughter of Gisèle St-Jean and late Jean-Louis Bélanger. She leaves behind her loving children : Jonathan, Dr. Greg (Dr. Jane Kielly), Justin (Julia Low); her cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Vivienne, Charlotte, Graeme and Katherine. She also leaves her sister Louise Rapley; her nephew Shawn, her niece Kim;  sister-in-law Nela Varney and her son Taylor;  her best friends Helen Johnson, Denise Dupéré and Caroline Landry as well as many relatives and friends. She was a Great Dane owner and lover of all animals.

As per Muriel's wishes, there will be no funeral or service. For those who wish to do so, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ruth Vander Stelt, the Cancer Clinic staff in Gatineau and the CLSC staff in Quyon for their support and their great care.

Dear Terry,
You and Muriel were so important to me. So many memories. All the times I baby sat your boys, you looked after my horses, you and Muriel made me feel I was part of your family.
I am so sorry, over the years I was unable to stay in contact.
My thoughts are with you

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May your cherished memories bring you comfort during this very difficult time. What an honour to have known and been loved by Muriel. She will always be my inspiration. Muriel was an amazing woman, loving wife and mother and my best friend. She lives on in all of you!

I found this (author unknown) and hopefully it will offer some comfort:

As I sit in heaven
And watch you every day
I try to let you know with signs
I never went away
I hear you when you’re laughing
And watch you when you sleep
I even place my arms around you
To calm you when you weep
So I try to send you signs
So you know you are not alone
Heaven is truly beautiful
Just you wait and see
So live your life, laugh again
Enjoy yourself, be free
Then I know with every breath you take
You’ll be taking one for me!

To the Family

With a heavy heart I share my feelings of sadness.
I will always cherish my fond memories with all the members of this wonderful family who participated in helping me in learning and adjusting to embrace the wonderful new Canadian culture and upbringing in the city of Aylmer.
I cherish the fond memories that I have been shared.
I will always remember the time Mrs Varney told the visit your wonderful home ,where I met face to face a wonderful great Dane ....who happened to be bleeding from his paw. That image of that Champion Dog was magnificent. As was the friendship shown to me over the many years from all the family members.During and after veterinarian office hours
Always remember the fond memories!!
