Luc Cayer

Peacefully passed away at the Ottawa Heart Institute, on Friday, September 13, 2019, at the age of 69 with his family by his side. Son of the late Gerard Cayer and the late Gilberte Villeneuve, Luc leaves behind his loving wife Cathie MacDonald, his siblings Diane (Michel), Daniel (Valerie) and Christine (Tim), nieces and nephews, many many great friends, cousins, and his mother-in law, Mary-Margaret MacDonald from Trenton, Ontario.

From a young age, Luc loved animals and throughout his life had many faithful dogs and horses. His love of horses led him to a career as a blacksmith. Luc was the successful patient of hemodialysis for 36 years, combining his treatment with homeopathy and other natural forms of healing. Luc was always interested in learning new things and always helping someone, whether around the farm, with horses, Qi Gong classes, or anything they needed help with. He loved being an experienced resource for fellow patients in the dialysis unit of the Ottawa Hospital. We hope that he will be reunited with all the animals that filled his life and remembered for his amazing courage, strength and determination and his will to lead a full and active life.

Luc touched so many lives, he will be missed.

Following Luc’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Memorial Donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation - Home Dialysis Unit. Special thanks to the Ottawa Hospital, the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Home Dialysis unit for their compassionate care.

My sincere sympathy to you and your family on the passing of Luc. I practised Chow qigong with Luc for over a decade. He was a wonderful teacher, very sensitive to those who had compromised health and absolutely dedicated to helping them execute the exercises correctly. His life was living testimony of the healing that could occur through qigong. Luc was an inspiration to us all.

C'est avec tristesse, que j ai apprise le décès de Luc, notre cousin. Nous ne sommes jamais prêts à les laisser partir ceux qu' on aime. Même, lorsque nous savons qu' il a eu son lot de douleur, la séparation du corps est la plus difficile.
Sachez que vous êtes tous dans mes pensées, en ces moments douloureux.

When I see a Pick-up truck or when I ear a 4 wealer going on our street, I think of him. He tought me how to be a better person. He was an example for me because we all know that that man suffered but dit not complain about it . He was just glad to be alive. He showed us that helping others is a must and that nothing should stop you from learning new things.

My memories of Luc is a gentle, kind and authentic man. When we were young, he help me out on a few occasions. He was always true to himself and what he believed in and That is what kept him going forward. I had a lot of respect for him and yet did not take the time to tell him... Cathy, your life companion has passed and he will be missed, certainly by you but also by his neighbours, his family and his friends. Our heart felt sympathies to you, Cathie. Luc was one of a kind. A totally unique personality with a giant giving heart. Nancy and I we’re so happy the day we moved to our new home to have Luc with us to sort out a mess with some windows we had to removed to get some furniture to our second floor. Luc without hesitation removed our second floor bedroom window and with the help of all our friends, were able to move into our new house and sleep in our own bed. Without Luc, our furniture would still be on the side of the road. Our gratitude forevermore.
