J.Peter Rappak

With great sadness we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of J. Peter Rappak on April 3, 2016 at age 65. Son of the late Ruth and Tadeusz, our dear Peter was beloved husband to Mary, loving father to Amanda and adoring grandfather to Rayn.

Peter leaves behind his older brother Wojtek and sister-in-law Penny, son-in-law Anil, brothers-in-law Fred and Steven (Marcia) and sisters-in-law Grace (Terry) and Janet (Brian). He will be deeply missed by his nephew Roman and nieces Natalia, Amilia, Katherine, Jaclynne, Stephanie, and Brittany as well as relatives and friends in Canada, Poland and England.

His brave yet brief battle with colon cancer broke our hearts but his ineffable character, remarkable curiosity, and sense of humour will always be cherished. His zest for life and spirit of adventure as well as his love of VW vans, fly-fishing and gardening are a lasting legacy.

Peter was born in Gdańsk, Poland and came to Canada with his family when he was eleven. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta and a Master's degree in sociology at McMaster University. After graduate studies in demography at the University of Western Ontario, he worked as a researcher with the Government of Canada until his recent retirement.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 1 Eardley Road, Gatineau (Aylmer), Quebec; interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Bellevue Cemetery (1030 Chemin d'Aylmer).

In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated (http://www.cancer.ca).
