Hurtubise, Cecilia

HURTUBISE, Cecilia

1948 - 2023

Passed away on Saturday, March 11 at the age of 74.  Born in Barrie, Ontario in 1948.  Beloved partner and wife of Richard Verret of 22 years, mother of Gerry Montigny, sister of Anita Burhart (Larry), Ronald Hurtubise (deceased), John Hurtubise and Linda Goodwin (Brian), she will also be missed by countless extended family members and friends.  Pre-deceased by Roger Hurtubise and Lilian Burke.

She worked at Nortel for nearly 30 years.  Cecilia was a master quilter, producing countless gorgeous works that she gave to friends and family far and wide.  These examples of her big heart and creativity will live on as constant reminders of her and represent her ever-present legacy to all those who knew her well. In addition, Cecilia enjoyed traveling, birdwatching in her large backyard from her sunroom, gardening, Facebooking and entertaining friends and family.  She particularly liked lavishing attention on her step-grandchildren Ronan, Darragh and Girvan including her unforgettable theme weekends.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at La Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais, 95 Cité des Jeunes Boulevard in Gatineau, Hull Sector, on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at 10 am.  Family will receive condolences as of 9:15. It will be possible to view the ceremony, live or by replay, via the following link: https://commemora.tv/fr/diffusions/73688

Donations to La maison Mathieu Froment-Savoie would be most welcome as the staff there were wonderful and ensured Cecilia's dignified and smooth passage to the afterlife.

I was so sad to learn about my dear long time friend's passing. We met 45 years ago and have remained. I will miss our pub lunches in the Berg in the last 10 years and sharing many dinners at each others homes. Cill and Richard were the ultimate entertainers, always enjoyed our time with them. She made me a quilt throw for my 60th b'day which I cherish every day.

Terry joins me in offering our most sincere condolences to you Richard, but to her extended family whom she adored, especially her 3 little boys!

Cecilia was a VERY special light at our facility for many many years.
Everyone knew Cecilia and looked forward to having her in their strength class. She was always the most welcoming, the most positive and not to mention the strongest in our classes. Her strength and mobility put members half her age to shame!
She gifted me many beautiful quilted works, from placemats to Christmas ornaments to a beautiful quilt that I still have on my couch today.
Although I missed her during Covid, and throughout our lockdown, I always assumed I would see her once we welcomed in-person classes again. I am so sad I will not get a chance to see her smiling face again. She was unforgettable, and the world is emptier without her.
She spoke of you so often, Richard. I felt like I knew you. And those grandchildren! I watched them grow up through pictures and stories of the infamous "themed sleepovers".
I am so sorry for your loss, Richard.
Please know we loved her so much.
